LOCKWOOD, Mo. -- Storm assessment teams from the National Weather Service in Springfield confirm a small tornado did touch down on the west edge of Lockwood, Missouri early this morning.

The storm was first reported by the Barton County emergency management director about 12:25 am, who reported a cone tornado 1 mile south of Highway 126 approximately two miles east of Golden City, moving east.

Weather Service crews say the EF-0 tornado touched down near the Lockwood golf course and city pool with estimated wind speeds of 80 miles per hour.

It then moved east-northeast to the north end of Sycamore Street.  The roof of a grocery store was damaged. Several trees were pulled up and a carport was tossed.

Assessment teams say the path of the tornado was about 1 mile long and 100 yards wide. No injuries were reported in this storm.

Lockwood's only supermarket, Muncy's, sustained a brunt of the damage.
