Pederson Praises Smith; Flowers Excited About Defense

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Offensive Coordinator Doug Pederson continued his praise of Alex Smith on Friday.
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs held their ninth day of training camp on Friday at Missouri Western.

The offense recovered from a sloppy Thursday practice, and QB Alex Smith connected with several receivers for touchdowns.

"He's been great," said Offensive Coordinator Doug Pederson. "I think he did come here with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder. He's our guy. We're going to war with him. He's come in here and he's lead this football team on and off the football field. And he's studied, he's prepared himself and he's improving every day."

The defense has been a strong-point throughout camp.

New faces in the secondary have cornerback Brandon Flowers excited. He says the team's attitude was positive last year despite a 2-14 finish.

"I think this team, whenever we stepped on the field, we gave it all we had," Flowers said. "No matter what our record was. You see any game, we're flying around, celebrating. We only had two wins and that's like Week 15, 16 so, with a fresh start and with a fresh coach, the sky's the limit. We've just got to go out there and put in the work and go out there and get W's in the win column."

All four Chiefs preseason games will be on KOZL.

A half hour before each one, you can catch our KC Blitz pregame show, beginning Friday, Aug. 9 before the Chiefs take on the Saints.
