Morning Sports Report - December 13, 2013

Finals are over and the Missouri State Bears can now turn their attention back to basketball. Dan Lucy has this update in your Friday morning sports report.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--For the past week, the Missouri State Bears have been preparing--more for final exams--then for a basketball game.

But that all changed Thursday with the end of finals.

And the Bears will be back on the road Friday.

Paul Lusk will take his Bears on the road to Oral Roberts on Friday and then to Louisville Tuesday.

Lusk did say that both Keith Pickens and Marcus Marshall are getting healthy and will be game time decisions in Tulsa.

Missouri State is 7-1 but are remembering what happened last season against Oral Roberts.

The Golden Eagles whipped the Bears by 20 at JQH Arena.

In fact, ORU has won the last two games against the Bears.

"Not very sexy but effective.  They're tough and they rebound," said MSU coach Paul Lusk.  "They just play the right way.  There's a lot of reminding about what happened last year.  Oral Roberts came in here and handled us.  And they have that kind of capability."

"It's a new year.  We have to come out, it's in the back of our minds, I'm not going to lie," said Bears guard Dorrian Williams.  "But we have to come out this year and attack.  And continue to do what we've been doing."

SPRINGFIELD, Mo--On the womens side of things at Missouri State, the Lady Bears will be back in action Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bears will host Lamar in a noon tip off at JQH Arena.

Missouri State will be looking to snap a five game losing streak against the Cardinals.

And Missouri State's newest mom, Kellie Harper, is back at the helm for the Lady Bears.

She returned to the team Sunday.

Harper gave birth to her first child three weeks ago.

Both Kellie and Jon are adjusting to being first time parents.

Kellie says it was strange to watch her team play while she was at home hundreds of miles away.

"It was different.  It was different from being there.  And different from watching it after the fact as well," said Kellie Harper.  "So I had a new perspective of watching our team.  And I was able to come back and really talk to them about some of the things I saw.  I'm excited about being back.  And being with the team from here on out.  Jackson will be with us as much as he can be with us because my mom will be travelling.  We're just really excited to be able to blend the two together now and neither one will suffer."
