LIBERTY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon will join President Barack Obama as he visits Kansas City Friday morning.

The White House says the president will stop by the Ford Motor Company's new Kansas City Stamping Plant. He'll discuss progress made since the start of the financial crisis before chatting with Ford employees.

Gov. Nixon says the event will highlight Missouri’s position as a leader in the rebirth of the American auto industry, "with an historic $1.1 billion investment by Ford in Kansas City as well as expansions by General Motors and auto suppliers across the state," he says in a statement.

Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) is also planning to attend the event, which is not open to the public.
