NIXA, Mo. – Dr. Stephen Kleinsmith, superintendent of schools in Nixa, has extended his contract through the 2016-17 school year after a unanimous decision from the Nixa Public School Board of Education.

The decision comes after an annual evaluation of the superintendent. The evaluation process reviews six categories of educational leadership, business, finance, strategic planning, board, and community relationships.

Dr. Kleinsmith will begin his 15th year in the district in August.

“Nixa has soared to new heights this past year with multiple awards and recognitions at both the state and national level,” said Linda Daugherty, board vice-president, in a statement. “Those awards reflect the kind of leadership that we have in Dr. Kleinsmith. His work continues to make Nixa shine and serve as an example of excellent educational leadership.”

The board has not determined a salary increase after Dr. Kleinsmith requested that the Board of Education first see what it is able to provide the faculty and staff of Nixa Public Schools.
