SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Two fire departments now have many smoke alarms to distribute to those who need them.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Two fire departments now have many smoke alarms to distribute to those who need them.

Today the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield, along with Meek's and Metro Appliances bought the alarms and gave 100 of them to the Nixa and Ozark fire departments.

They departments received 50 each, which is about the number that the Nixa department gives out to families over six months.

"When our personnel are on the scene of any other type of call,” says assistant fire chief at the Nixa Fire Department, Lloyd Walles.  “If we are in someone's home for a medical assist or another type of call they are constantly checking for working smoke alarms. It's just that important to us and this donation will allow us to continue that program. "

This is the time of year when fire departments remind people to check the batteries in their smoke alarms, since we turn our clocks back an hour on Sunday.
