NIXA, Mo. – The Nixa Fire Protection District decided to help out fellow fire districts by donating two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the Chadwick and Billings fire protection districts in Christian County.

According to a press release, the two AEDs were surplus units left over from a supply brought in to replace the AEDs in the Nixa Fire District.

“With budget planning we replaced all of our AEDs this year. There is limited trade-in value for this type of medical equipment and we felt it was best to pass on the life-saving tools to other departments in Christian County” says Asst. Chief Whitney Weaver in the release.

Automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) have been shown to be effective when used on victims of cardiac arrest as long as they are used within the first few minutes after the arrest begins and are always more effective when combined with CPR.
