New Details: Identities Released in Shooting at Cox Hospital

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Police have released the identities of the two people involved in a shooting at Cox South Hospital Saturday evening.

The deceased male has been identified as Booker Cox Jr. A female was also involved in the incident. That woman has been identified as Booker’s wife, Carolyn, who was visiting him in the hospital. Carolyn is still being treated and her condition is not known at this time. 

Laura Kennedy will have more details on the shooting tonight at 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- In a release, CoxHealth Media Relations Coordinator Stacy Fender announced that, "CoxHealth continues to operate, and patient care is not affected. The hospital is secure, and all patients and staff are safe," after a shooting happened Saturday evening.

Around 9:20 p.m. Saturday police were called to Cox South Hospital to respond to reports of the sound of gunshots.

When police arrived on scene they were escorted by hospital security personnel to the east wing on the 9th floor of the hospital. In a hospital room police found two victims, a male, 79, and a female, 69, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

The male was pronounced dead at approximately 10 p.m., the woman received care and the severity of her injuries is unknown at this time.

The east wing of the hospital is a medical/surgical hospital unit which provides generalized hospital care.

Police say the shooting was contained to a single room.
