SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- After 16 days of no work, furloughed workers are finally back on the job. Missouri State students didn't hold back on their opinions on the subject.

Dr. Rushefsky spoke to his American Government class at MSU Thursday afternoon about the government shutdown. All of the students KOLR10’s Melissa Stern spoke to are fed up with the government.

"It's very irritating," says Adam Wutke.

"Both parties are playing a game with millions upon millions of Americans," says Ian Tate.

"The fact that Congress is getting paid and federal organizations aren't, I don't think that's appropriate," says Alec Barber.

Many government employees in the Springfield area declined to comment on this topic because they're not allowed, but many students felt strongly about the subject and wanted to discuss it.

"It's mostly just a bunch of finger pointing and end fighting," says Wutke. "Some Republicans saying we want this and the Democrats saying we want that, and I don't really hear all that much about what the people are saying."

"Both the Republicans and the Democrats need to stop being Republicans and Democrats and start being Americans," says Tate.

Both Wutke and Tate have personally been affected by the shutdown.

"I am potentially affected by it as a veteran," says Wutke. "I receive the GI Bill and the status of my paycheck is questionable."

"I'm a disabled vet," adds Tate. "My income was on the line. If they had not passed this budget, I would not know where next month's rent would come from."

Now that the shutdown is over, many events are continuing as planned.

For example, Wilson's Creek Battlefield 8k and Fun Run is this weekend. The 8k starts at 7:30 a.m. and the Fun Run starts at 8 a.m.
