Mizzou athletics focus on Springfield - and Camdenton girls come to Springfield for a win against the Hornets in softball.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Black and gold were the colors of choice last night at the University Plaza in Springfield, where members of the Springfield Tiger Club mixed with Mizzou athletic coaches and staff.

Mizzou Athletics Director Mike Alden was in town, as was basketball coach Frank Haith and a number of other coaches, assistant coaches and players, including star guard Jabari Brown.

The evening also featured an auction all to raise scholarship money for students at Missouri.

With the budding SEC rivalry between Mizzou and Arkansas, it's important for Missouri that Springfield be Tiger country.
"It's huge," Alden says.. "I think that certainly, the Springfield area, we have a tremendous number of fans in this area, we know that. Supporters of the institution. But at the same time it's close to Fayetteville, and being a bordering state, and knowing that's going to be our permanent rival in the SEC, I think that's a natural."

Frank Haith agreed. "As we move to the SEC, I don't think we're too far from Fayetteville, Arkansas right here," Haith said. "I think it's important for us to continue. Last year we played from a basketball standpoint, with a strong contingent at Bud Walton Arena. So it's important for us to continue to make an appearance here."

In Major League Baseball Thursday, Kansas City takes 13 innings, but beat the Mariners 7-6.  And the St. Louis Cardinals fall to the Reds, 6-2.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Camdenton traveled to Hillcrest for some high school softball on Thursday.

And the Lakers had freshman Kylee Compton on the hill, she starts the game with a strikeout.

Then in the top of the second, Compton takes this deep to left, over the fence, a solo shot it's 1-0 Camdenton.

Hillcrest answers in the bottom of the second. Two on for Ashely Ruggles who singles to left, Jordan Adams and Lilly Beam both score it's 2-1 Hornets.

But Camdenton improves to 5-0, with a 14-7 win.
