SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Springfield's newest diverging diamond intersection is open and appears to be going over smoothly with drivers so far.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says the intersection at Kansas Expressway and James River Freeway opened to traffic late morning on Saturday.
Construction crews have spent the past few months reconfiguring the interchange on north and southbound lanes of Kansas Expressway.

Traffic signals were also upgraded and concrete repair work was done on the southbound lanes.

MoDOT officials report no problems when the lanes opened to traffic.  Monday morning was the first big test of heavy traffic on the lanes, but no issues have been reported.
