SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Transportation and the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety are holding a seat belt contest to save teen lives.
The 2013 Battle of the Belt Challenge hopes to convince teens to buckle up, using an education campaign and friendly competition between schools.

All Missouri high schools can participate. The program consists of two surprise seat belt checks at each high school and a video contest.

According to results of a 2012 MoDOT survey, 34 percent of Missouri's teens are not wearing safety belts

The competition runs from October 1 to November 8. Schools can sign up online at savemolives.com.
