Mizzou's Haith, Alden Visit Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Mizzou hoops coach Frank Haith and AD Mike Alden were in Springfield Thursday, promoting the Mizzou scholarship fund.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Prominent members of the University of Missouri's Athletics Department in town to help raise money for the Tigers Scholarship Fund.

They had dinner at University Plaza, and auctioned off some items.

Men's basketball coach Frank Haith has been on the state-wide tour.

Star guard Jabari Brown with him today and AD Mike Alden was in the house too.

They all know Springfield is a swing city right between Columbia and Fayetteville, Arkansas.

And with Mizzou now in the Southeastern Conference, Alden says locking up SGF is a big deal.

"It's huge," he said. "I think that certainly, the Springfield area, we have a tremendous number of fans in this area, we know that. Supporters of the institution. But at the same time it's close to Fayetteville, and being a bordering state, and knowing that's going to be our permanent rival in the SEC, I think that's a natural."

Frank Haith agreed.

"As we move to the SEC, I don't think we're too far from Fayetteville, Arkansas right here," Haith said. "I think it's important for us to continue. Last year we played from a basketball standpoint, with a strong contingent at Bud Walton Arena. So it's important for us to continue to make an appearance here."
