Man Killed in Fatal Shooting in Howell County

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – A man died Tuesday, Dec. 10, after an alleged assault ended in a fatal gunshot wound.
WEST PLAINS, Mo. – A man died Tuesday, Dec. 10, after an alleged assault ended in a fatal gunshot wound.

According to an incident report from the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched to a residence on County Rd. 6890 around 8:30 p.m. on reports of a gunshot victim.

When police arrived, the homeowner reported that Brock D. Powell, 37, of West Plains, came to the residence and began to stab the homeowner.

The incident report says as a result of the altercation, Powell suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

Ozark Area Network reports an autopsy was scheduled for Dec. 12 at 1 p.m.

According to Howell County Coroner Tim Cherry, a consultation between himself, the sheriff’s office and the prosecutor’s office is underway on the possibility of a coroner’s jury in the case.

No other information in the incident is available at this time.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
