SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After attempting to flee from police, a driver caused a three-car accident at the intersection of Kearney and Grant Friday afternoon.

According to Springfield Police spokeswoman Lisa Cox, police received a call after a woman in an unrelated vehicle witnessed a man assaulting a woman inside his vehicle.

Police tried to pull over a suspect vehicle after the call. The male driver would not yield and began to travel at high speeds.

At some point, the woman was able to exit the suspect vehicle, says Cox.

Officers soon terminated the pursuit, says Cox in an email, but the driver continued to travel at high speeds.

Upon termination of the pursuit, the officer returned to the assault victim.

Meanwhile, after running a red light at Kearney and Grant, the suspect vehicle t-boned another vehicle. A third vehicle was also hit as a result of the first collision.

The driver of the suspect vehicle and the driver of the t-boned vehicle were transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

No injuries were reported in the third vehicle.

The driver of the suspect vehicle is currently in police custody for third-degree assault charges and traffic-related charges.

The man who fled from police has not yet been charged by the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office and, as per KOLR10 policy, will not be identified until official charges have been filed.
