Man Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter for Wednesday Fatal Shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A 51-year-old rural Springfield man has been charged today with -degree involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death Wednesday of a 60-year-old man at the suspect’s home west of the city.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A 51-year-old rural Springfield man was charged Thursday with first-degree involuntary manslaughter in connection with the Wednesday death of a 60-year-old man at the suspect’s home west of the city.

Gordon D. Knight, 51, of 7380 W. Farm Road 136, is being held in the Greene County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

He was arrested Wednesday at his home, where investigators found the body of Jackie Swearingin, 60, of Springfield.

The Greene County Coroner pronounced Swearingin dead at the scene of a gunshot wound to the face/head. Swearingin was also a resident at the home, according to the sheriff’s office.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24, in Columbia, MO to determine the official cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
