MERRIAM WOODS, Mo. -- A Taney County man is charged in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash Monday morning.

Dylan Conrad Sparks, 21, is charged with abandonment of a corpse and tampering with a motor vehicle.

According to Merriam Woods Police Chief James Eaton, Justin Tanner, 19, of Merriam Woods, died in the crash Monday between 3-4 a.m. on Old Trail Road near Linwood Road. Tanner's body was found abandoned in the middle of the road.

"Sparks was taken into custody in the Vineyards Parkway area," says Eaton. "We're back at the scene today to continue the investigation."

According to Branson Tri-Lakes News, Sparks was drunk when he was arrested. On the way to jail, the report says Sparks told the trooper he "knew (Tanner) was dead in the road" after he hit him and left to go home.

Sparks is held in Taney County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
