Man Assaulted in Downtown Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Springfield Police responded to a report of shots fired in downtown Springfield around 10:30 p.m. Friday night.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Springfield Police responded to a report of shots fired in downtown Springfield around 10:30 p.m. Friday night.

According to the Springfield Police Department, a shots-fired report was called in near a parking garage at 230 N. Campbell.

When police arrived on-scene, they found a male victim who suffered from a physical assault. According to the Springfield Police Department, three men had approached the victim and assaulted him by punching and kicking him.

In an incident log from the event, it was reported that a knife was pulled, but there was no evidence in the report and no stab or cut wounds to confirm it.

According to the police department, the victim’s girlfriend was present during the assault and reported that while the three men were leaving the scene, they pulled a gun out and fired a shot. Police say there is also no evidence of this as no rounds or bullet-impact marks were found in the area.

The victim of the assault was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

No names were released in the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
