Last Minute Shoppers Hit the Mall with Hours to Spare

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Less than 24 hours left until Christmas and shopping malls are filling up with last minute shoppers. KOLR 10’s Brett Martin hit the aisles to find out why some shoppers wait until the last minute.

Counting down the hours until stores closed, shoppers hit the Battlefield Mall to get their last minute gifts.

For Michael and Sydney Roberts, they had no choice but to wait until the last day.

"We drove up here so we couldn't bring it all with us. That’s why we had to start today," says Michael Roberts.

They are from Clear Water, Florida and say they normally start on Black Friday, but this year was different.

"This was a necessity but I understand and its fun."

Trisha Thompson and her kids brave the crowds to get her last minute gifts for family.

"I have three more people to buy for on my list," says Thompson.

As for Mary Ann Imhoff, she says it gives her one last kick to get into the holiday spirit for Christmas.

"I love the atmosphere, its a Merry Christmas atmosphere, everyone in the shops are very friendly," says Imhoff.

She starts her shopping in October, but says coming to the mall in the final days is something she looks forward to each year.

"I like the mall, I love the mall."

She says even if she has to park in the last row of the parking lots, its well worth it.

"We are willing to brave that to get those last minute gifts that we really want."

Many businesses cash in on the last minute shoppers too. Kohls, K-Mart and Macy’s are just a few that stay open extended hours.
