SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Children at the CoxHealth Pediatric Unit were in for a very special surprise today. It was all part of the 7th annual “Jay Sanpietro Jr. Toy Drive”.

The toy drive is in remembrance of Corporal John A. Sanpietro Jr. who was killed in the line of duty in 2005.

Since his death, his family has teamed up to make a difference in a child’s life, especially the ones who are stuck in the hospital over Christmas.

Sgt Jason Pace says, “we feel like this toy drive has proven to be a great way to carry on his memory."

Jennifer Sanpietro, explains how important the event is to the family, "it's such a great way to honor jay and their dad, it's a win/win situation for the children at the hospital and for my kids."

Organizers tell us the leftover toys will be given to the Children’s Miracle Network for future distribution.
