OZARK, Mo. -- Gun season for deer hunting in Missouri starts this weekend.  Wednesday night, people were going through state-required training to get ready.

This hunter skill session took place at Ozark High School.
The Missouri Department Of Conservation teaches people how to safely handle guns and state regulations for deer season.

"Since hunter education was adopted, hunting incidents have dropped drastically.  Courses like this make hunting safer," claims instructor Greg Collier.

This was the second part of the hunter education process.
After passing a test, people can begin buying permits.

Hunter education is required for anyone born in Missouri after 1966.   Read more about the requirement.
