Greene County Flu Cases Nearly Tripled in Early March

(Springfield, MO) -- Greene County saw a dramatic increase in flu cases in its most recent reporting.

(Springfield, MO) -- Greene County saw a dramatic increase in flu cases in its most recent reporting.

From March 4 to March 10, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department has tracked 137 cases. That's up from 48 cases between February 25 and March 3.

Of those cases, 116 were Influenza A; twenty-one were Influenza B.

The health department found that patients ages 25-49 saw the highest spike in cases during the most recent period. There were 36 cases reported in that age group.

The next highest was reported among those 5-14 years old. That group saw 35 cases.

Before the 137 number was released this week, there had been a total 130 cases of flu reported since September 18, 2011.

According to the Centers for Disesase Control and Prevention, February is typically peak flu season.
