Golden Globe Nominations Announced

HOLLYWOOD -- The nominations for this year's Golden Globe Awards run the gamut from sure bets to a few surprises. Among the surprises, several series on Netflix got nods.
HOLLYWOOD -- The nominations for this year's Golden Globe Awards run the gamut from sure bets to a few surprises.

Among the surprises, several series on Netflix got nods.

The historical '12 Years a Slave' and crime film 'American Hustle' lead Golden Globe Awards nominations this year with 7 nods each.

The nominations were announce Thursday morning in Hollywood.

The black-and-white movie "Nebraska" garnered five nominations, including best motion picture- musical or comedy, and best screenplay.

"Gravity" and " Captain Phillips" also recieved nominations, including best motion picture-drama.


Netflix is quickly becoming a big player in the TV world.

It's "House of Cards" got four nominations, while "Orange is the New Black" and "Arrested Development" each got a nod.


HBO's Liberace movie "Behind the Candelabra" was among the leaders in the TV categories with four nominations.

Perennial award show favorites "Breaking Bad" "Modern Family" and "The Big Bang Theory" were also nominated.

TV newcomers like "Brooklyn 99," "The Michael J. Fox Show" and "Orphan Black" all got nods.

The Globes kick off awards season, and often give clues about the big winners in the other awards.

This year,  Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will return as hosts of the Golden Globes ceremony on January 12th.
