Focus on Summer Weather Hazards Today

Today is Missouri Summer Safety Day and National Excessive Heat Awareness Day -- why it's important for your family.
Millions of families will take to the lakes, beaches and campgrounds around the country this weekend, to celebrate Memorial Day and kick off the summer season.  But weather and health experts hope you'll be aware of the hazards that come with hot, humid summer weather.

Today is Missouri Summer Safety Day and National Excessive Heat Awareness Day.

The National Weather Service, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, and the State Emergency Management Agency are promoting a campaign have joined together to urge people to be more aware of high heat, lightning, and flooding - all summer weather hazards.

Several web sites can help you learn more about each of the hazards, so when the weather turns very hot or stormy, you'll be prepared.
