While you're trick-or-treating with your kids this Halloween, your hands will be full with extra candy bags, costume accessories and your camera. Who has room to carry a flashlight? Make your smartphone do double duty and download one of these handy flashlight apps.

A must-download flashlight app for iPhone users is simply called Light. It boasts an incredibly simple -- and beautiful -- interface with just the most necessary features. As soon as you open the app, the flashlight -- which uses your iPhone's flash -- will automatically be on. Adjust the dial on the left to increase the beam's intensity. The three buttons on the bottom are for SOS, the regular flashlight and for a strobe light, which you can adjust the frequency of the flashing. This app is intuitive, handy, clear of advertisements and best of all...completely free!

Another wonderfully free flashlight app is called Brightest Flashlight and is for Android users. It works by turning on all of the available lights on the device: the camera flash, screen and keyboard backlight. While this app is also relatively simple, there are settings for sound effects and even a handy timer.

Whichever you choose to download, these apps will turn your smartphone into a multi-tasking tool.
