Flags Flying at Half-Staff Today to Honor Fallen Soldier

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Governor Jay Nixon has ordered all U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings throughout the state be flown at half-staff today.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Governor Jay Nixon has ordered all U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings throughout the state be flown at half-staff today.

The move is to honor Private First Class Jonathon M.D. Hostetter, 20, who died August 23 in Haft Asiab, Afghanistan. The Humphreys, Mo. native's funeral is tomorrow.

He and another soldier suffered wounds when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device during combat operations.

Governor Nixon has ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags in Private Hostetter's native Sullivan County be flown at half-staff from September 6-11.

Hostetter was assigned to the 40th Engineer Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.
