Fixing a Flat Tire Results In Two Deaths

BOONE COUNTY, Ark. -- Two men died on Hwy 7 Sunday night after being struck by a passing tractor-trailer while trying to fix a flat tire.

BOONE COUNTY, Ark. -- An Arkansas man who had stopped on the shoulder of Arkansas Highway 7 to fix a flat tire, and a young man who stopped to help him, were both killed Sunday night when the two were struck by a passing tractor-trailer.


Richard L. Foster, 19, of Lead Hill, had stopped on the southbound shoulder of the highway to assist Gregory L. Ward, 40, of Harrison when they were struck by a 1999 Peterbilt driven by Scotty G. Arnst, 72, of Waco, Texas, according to an accident report from Troop I of the Arkansas State Police.


Both died at the scene, troopers said.


The crash occurred near the highway’s intersection with James Phifer Ln. near Harrison.


Ward’s 9-year-old son, who was seated in the family’s 2003 Ford Escape when the accident occurred, suffered minor injuries.
