Wentzville, Mo.—Fire fighters from the Wentzville fire department handed out 426 coats to struggling families that have children in need of a warm winter coat Dec. 21.

Dave Marlo the Secretary and Treasurer of IAFF 2665 said that:  “While we are not running 911 emergencies, we are trying to find other ways to get out into the community to serve.”

The children’s coats where purchased using funds raised by the Wentzville Fire District during their off off-duty hours. The fire fighter raised over $13,000 to be able to purchase the coats.

“It is anticipated that these 423 school-aged children will receive the gift of warmth, ensuring school attendance, better general health, and the ability to play outside during the coldest months of the year. This program is a collaboration between firefighters and the communities we serve,” Marlo said.
