SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After the unveiling of the Every Child Promise 10-year plan on Tuesday, the executive committee announced Thursday that it has reached $900,000 in pledges to the three-year pilot phase of the plan.

Every Child Promise is a plan city leaders announced on Tuesday to increase the number of children in Springfield who are ready to learn when they start kindergarten.

The goal of the committee is to raise $1.2 million to fund four pilot projects identified in Tuesday’s news conference.

The funding is comprised of several three-year pledges by private citizens, families and foundation support, according to a news release.

The committee is also seeking support from the general public in any amount to fund 10 one-year scholarships for children whose families would otherwise not be able to afford high quality, kid-friendly preschool.

According to the website, supporters have contributed about 36 percent toward that 12,000 goal, with 42 days remaining for the crowdfunding project.

This funding will support the following pilot projects over three years:

• Expanding the home visitation program similar to Parents as Teachers with five additional parent educators serving 450-500 children per year;

• Providing scholarships for 50-60 additional children to access high-quality pre-kindergarten education for three years;

• Developing a public-private Pre-K Education Partnership for 20 children between Springfield Public Schools and a private provider in Springfield;

• Creating a public-private nutritional food partnership with Convoy of Hope to increase immediate access to nutritional food for food-insecure children.
