Evangel's Schroeder Dies At 75

Former Evangel football coach Dave Schroeder dies from Alzheimer's disease.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--One of the pioneers of Evangel football died Tuesday.

Football coach Dave Schroeder passed away at the age of 75 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Schroeder was Evangel's second football coach in the program's history.

And he helped build Evangel into a winner.

Schroeder took over in 1983 and coached the team to its first ever winning season a year later.

The best season was 1988 when the team went to the NAIA national semifinals and finished with an 11-1 record.

But Evangel forfieted those wins after two players were found to have played in a scrimmage as redshirt freshman.

The NAIA changed the rule a year later.
