EU's Brimhall Playing Through Pain

Evangel quarterback Andrew Brimhall is playing through a knee injury.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--Brenton Illum has been rebuilding the Evangel football team for the last four seasons.

Saturday, his first group of seniors will play their last Crusader game.

That group is small, only ten seniors but this group has been a major part of the rebuilding process.

And it's led by quarterback Andrew Brimhall.

Midway through this season Brimhall suffered an injury to his right knee that requires surgery to repair.

But the 6-foot-1 Memphis native has put off the surgery playing on a bum knee and he hopes to lead his team to an upset win Saturday against 9-1 Benedictine.

"That's the reason I'm out here playing," said Anthony Brimhall.  "Whether I'm hurt or whether I'm healthy.  I'm out here playing for these guys and this team.  I'm here to help this team.  And I think that I need to step back if I need to and let Brett step in.  And he's done a great job stepping in."

"Probably anybody else would have had the surgery sat out and missed the rest of the season," said Evangel receiver Jesse Vaughn.  "But Andrew loves this game and loves this team.  When we see that it pushes us to fight even harder for him."
