SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- More bitterly cold weather is on the way to southwest Missouri, prompting the Salvation Army to reopen it's Extreme Emergency Cold Weather Shelter through Friday, Jan. 24.

The Salvation Army opens the Extreme Emergency Cold Weather Shelter anytime the National Weather Service forecasts a wind chill of 14 degrees or below, or there appears to be significant need in the community to activate the shelter.

So far this year, 335 people sought shelter with the Salvation Army, which is 100 more people than last year, according to a news statement.

"We encourage anyone who needs shelter from the dangerously cold temperatures to seek shelter here at The Salvation Army and not risk endangering their health or life," says Major Norman Grainger, Corps Officer.
