As the new school year has just begun, shake off those summer cobwebs with a few educational smartphone apps designed jumpstart your students' learning.
Studyblue is a free app for both iPhone and Android users that lets students create their own custom flash cards. Whether it's for vocabulary words, science terms or historical dates, students can easily review for an exam with just the tap of a smartphone screen. Or, use the browser version to search for other flashcard sets created by other students.

Bill Nye the Science Guy -- famous for his bow tie and 1990s TV shows -- is celebrating his 20th anniversary with the release of a new iPhone and iPad app.

It's free to download and offers an interactive experience as students can poke through the contents of his desk, watch videos and follow instructions for home experiments.

Finally, Duolingo is a must download free app on Androids and iPhones for people looking to learn a foreign language.

Students learn one of six offered languages by helping to translate real web pages at their ability level.
