SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The deputy-involved shooting death of Joshua Ford was deemed justified Tuesday by the Greene County Prosecutors office, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

Ford was killed in an altercation near Interstate 44 and Farm Road 45 on Dec. 1.

Deputies said a homeowner called authorities to report Ford was on his or her property with a weapon and then ran into nearby woods.

When deputies located Ford, they said he ran toward the deputies with what they say looked like a weapon,

Sheriff Jim Arnott said previously that deputy-involved shootings are rare in Greene County.

"I've been here since 1988," says Sheriff Arnott.  "As far back as I can remember, we've had a total of about nine to ten, somewhere in there."

After an internal investigation, the case was submitted to the Prosecutor's Office on Dec. 19.
