Dahmm Shooting Remains City's Only Unsolved Murder this Year

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- It's been one month since a fatal shooting in south Springfield, but the case remains unsolved.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- It's been one month since a fatal shooting in south Springfield, but the case remains unsolved.

Whoever shot and killed Gregory Dahmm, 36, is still on the loose. The shooting happened August 18 near Campbell and Sunset, just behind the homes on W. Edgewood.

"Is it surprising what happened," recalls neighbor Vivian Duncan. "Yeah, it was too close. It was just really scary. I seen a lot of people running down the street towards where the shots were."

Police say Dahmm left a party at 216 W. Edgewood. Shots were fired nearby, then the alley behind the house became an active crime scene. However, none of the evidence collected has led to an arrest.

"I wouldn't say that we've had any suspects, but we have interviewed some people that have helped narrow the investigation down," says Captain David Millsap with the Springfield Police Department. He leads the criminal investigations division. "The investigators are working hard on this case. We believe the suspect was a targeted suspect it wasn't a random killing."

He says they hoped surveillance video from the alley would be helpful, but so far, no leads.

"You know, we've interviewed a lot of people and I still think there's people out there that know things, that it's being discussed within certain circles groups of people and that's the people we need to have call in and talk to us."

He says there isn't a timeline for solving murders like this one.

"Some of them take longer than others to piece together. But again, in homicide investigations the important thing is putting together a quality case and not rushing things where it doesn't need to be rushed."

But a month has already gone by since the shooting.

"Yeah, it's kind of scary when you know somebody's on the loose," says Duncan.

Dahmm's case is the seventh homicide in Springfield so far this year. The previous six investigations are complete. There were 19 homicides in Springfield last year.
