Willard's Kendrix Leads Tigers Over Nixa

Willard beats Nixa 42-37 to advance to state quarterfinals.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--Every basketball team dreams of winning a state championship when it starts practice in November.

For a handful of those teams, the dream stays alive.

Wednesday night, the next step as the bigger Class 4 and 5 schools played their sectional rounds.

In Class 5 Nixa squared off with Willard.

Nixa comes into the game with a 22-5 record, but one of those five losses came at Willard in late February.

The more important game was Wednesday night.

And Willard's Chris Kendrix was on fire, tips the ball away, then chases it down and opens the game with this slam dunk.

Then the future Missouri State Bear pulls up and swishes the three from the top of the key, it's 5-2 Tigers.

Then Kendrix drives the left side of the lane, and takes it off the window, seven of Willard's first ten points, and the Tigers were off and running.

Nixa battling for points early, Jacob Ruder fighting for the board and the putback, it's a 10-4 Willard lead.

More Tigers, Levi McGinnis beats Ruder off the bounce, he gets the hoop and the foul, it's 12-4 Tigers.

Nixa trying to keep pace, Bryce Dulin with the floater it's 12-6.

Chris Kendrix finished with 29 points, and five steals and Willard wins 42-37 and will face Columbia Hickman in the quarters.
