Wednesday, June 25 Overnight Forecast

Umbrellas needed at times into the weekend.
Rain returned to parts of the Ozarks after a brief break on Tuesday.  The rain started early in a few spots with an isolated cluster of showers that spread east this morning along the I-44 corridor.  The rain made it into Springfield before falling apart.  That round of rain set the stage for a later round of showers and thunderstorms to develop further south along and south of the state line during the afternoon.  This area of rain was widespread across Northern Arkansas with pockets of heavy rain occurring.  Harrison reported nearly three quarters of an inch.  These storms also produced a high overcast over much of Southern Missouri that suppressed afternoon temperatures.  The rain also helped keep most areas north of the state line rain free during the evening hours.

The forecast wil remain an unsettled one.  The pattern features the leftovers of a trough across our part of the country.  This area of unsettled weather will likely be slow to lift out, and this will result in scattered showers and thunderstorms on a daily basis through Saturday.  A trough will push into the Upper Midwest by Sunday, and this will kick out the pocket of upper level energy, but it may generate one final round of showers and thunderstorms into Sunday.

After Sunday the pattern will quiet down for Monday into Tuesday as the storm track shifts further north.  Hotter temperatures will come with the drier pattern with low 90s possible Monday, and maybe into Tuesday.  By Tuesday another front will try to drop south into the area.  This should lead to another period of unsettled weather from Tuesday afternoon through the rest of next week.  The bad news is that the unsettled weather will likely linger through the 4th, but there are signs that hotter and drier conditions will follow for at least part of the rest of the holiday weekend.  And, models are still hinting at a more sustained period of hotter and drier conditions after the 4th.
