Wednesday, July 2 Overnight Forecast

Beautiful through the 4th with summer heat and humditiy returning this weekend.
Picture perfect weather through the 4th.  Temperatures today were springlike with highs ranging from the mid 70s north to around 80° south.  What really made it open window weather was the lack of humidity.  The summer muggies were moved out last night by a secondary cold front which generated a few light showers as it passed through the Ozarks.  High pressure is building into the Ozarks now, and this will make for almost perfect weather into the holiday weekend.

Near record lows are expected tonight.  All of the ingredients for a cool summer night are coming together.  High pressure is generating light winds, and this coupled with mostly clear skies and a dry air mass will allow temperatures to drop into the mid 50s.  Rolla has the best chance at setting a record low Thursday morning.  The record low is 54°, and temperatures there should drop to around 53°.  Springfield will fall a little short with a low of 54° expected.  The record is 52°.

After a cool start, Thursday is looking like a carbon copy of today with highs in the upper 70s to around 80°.  The 4th will be about the same, just a little warmer during the afternoon with afternoon highs returning to the low to mid 80s.  Viewing conditions for fireworks look perfect.  Winds will be light, skies will be clear, and temperatures will be comfortable.

Summer conditions return this weekend.  Temperatures and humidty levels will be on the way back up.  Rain chances will be creeping back into the forecast as well.  A few passing showers look possible Saturday up near Hwy. 54.  Rain chances look a little higher across the area on Sunday with isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms possible.

Hot and humid conditions are expected through the first half of next week with a few showers and thunderstorms possible each day.  We'll be on the eastern edge of a summer ridge next week, so this may allow a front into the area.  The long range pattern through the middle of the month looks fairly similar.  Temperatures will likely be more consistently hot, and rain chances will be more spotty than in June.  But, the opportunity for fronts to move into or through the area will certainly be there.  When that happens we'll see higher rain chances and temperatures will cool off a bit.
