For 20 years, (1981-2000) John T. Pierpont was top the top law enforcement official in Greene County. During his time as sheriff, Pierpont was elected President of the National Sheriff Association. He was one of three sheriff's across the state to be a part of the association.
 
Before he took on the title "Sheriff", Pierpont was U.S. Marshall in Kansas City. He spent 9 years with the U.S. Marshall service.
 
During our interview with the retired Pierpont, he tells us how a former Greene County sheriff, not his father, convinced him to run in 1980.
