Tuesday, August 12 Overnight Forecast

Back to school week feeling like early fall.
Back to school week feeling like early fall with temperatures running almost 10 degrees cooler than normal.  Today was picture perfect with a combination of sunny skies, low humidity, and pleasant temperatures.  It will be tempting tonight to leave the windows open with temperatures dropping through the 60s into the upper 50s.

Weather conditions will be perfect for viewing the peak of the Perseids tonight.  One problem... bright moonshine continues to wash out many of the shooting stars.  Still, it will be a worthwhile endeavor with such a beautiful night ahead.  And, at the very least, you'll be spending some time outside on one of the most beautiful nights of the summer.  For best viewing, get away from the city lights and look toward the northeast.  Meteors will be most numerous before dawn.

Wednesday's weather looks like a carbon copy of today.  Afternoon highs will be a little warmer.  The rest of the week will feature a slow rise in afternoon temperatures.  There will also be a bit more cloudiness, but rain should stay away until the weekend.

The pattern shifts a bit this weekend with the deep trough, responsible for the current cool spell, lifting out.  A flatter flow will take hold across the nation.  This will cause winds to become more westerly, delivering hotter air from the west.  At the surface, winds will become more southerly, delivering more humid air from the south.  Rain chances will also be heading higher as a pocket of upper level energy slowly moves through the area.  This will lead to a chance for showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday.

Summer will be back at full strenth by early next week.  Overnight lows will be in the low 70s and afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 90s.  Isolated storms will be possible as well.
