COLLINSVILLE, Ill. -- The city of Collinsville, Illinois proclaimed Monday as Karrie Brown Day, in honor of a very special resident of the city. Karrie Brown is a 17-year-old from Collinsville who received 11,000 likes in less than a week on Facebook.

That prompted her favorite clothing store, Wet Seal, to hire her as its first model with Down Syndrome.

You've probably heard the phrase "living the dream", right?  Well, the first time I met Karrie Brown, that's exactly what she was doing

After her facebook page got 11,000 "likes" in less than a week, Karrie's favorite clothing store, Wet Seal, flew her to California to become their first model with Down Syndrome.

"One of the girls from corporate Wet Seal said where did she learn to do those modeling moves?  I said I have absolutely no idea, they said, she's got a natural talent for it," says Sue Brown, Karrie's mom.

Six months later, Karrie has achieved celebrity status the proof is on the McDonalds sign and on page 74 of "J-14" magazine

Reporter: "You like being a model?"   "Yes," says Karrie.
Reporter:  "It's pretty fun, and it's cool to see yourself in a magazine, right?"
"Right."

It's a magazine filled with teen celebrities
"They did a two page article on her which just kind of blew Karrie away, to see her picture in the same magazine with Ross Lynch and Selena Gomez and One Direction," says Sue Brown.

Reporter:  "I don't know any models, you're the only one that I know would you sign this for me?"
"Yes, sir," Karrie obliges.

When Karrie was a week old a doctor told her mom, never to expect anything from her.  Well, 28,000 Facebook likes and a stint in a national magazine later, Sue Brown got the last laugh.
"She just got it wrong all the way around!"

But even with her celebrity status, she still has the same "sparkle", the same infectious laugh that she had before her dream became a reality

"I did it!"

Karrie will be walking the red carpet at a pre-Oscar event in LA March 1st.
