LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The State of Arkansas is pushing the owners of the Majestic Hotel in Hot Springs to get a move on cleaning up hazardous debris at the site along Park Avenue.

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has sent a letter (attached above) to Park Residencies in Kansas City, Missouri calling for the work to get under way sooner rather than later.

The ADEQ says a storage tank remains on the property and it could still have petroleum inside.

The agency is also concerned about old laundry and dry cleaning equipment that remains on the premises it says could contain hazardous waste.

ADEQ officials say the likelihood is high of asbestos in the debris of the yellow brick portion of the hotel that was demolished after a destructive fire in February.

The company has 10 days to answer the ADEQ's request for cleanup.
