SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A 26-year-old Springfield man was sentenced Friday for shooting another Springfield resident.

Maurice D. Jones, 26, of Springfield, was sentenced to a total of 25 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for shooting another man at a Kum & Go gas station on August 3, 2012.

Around midnight on August 3, 2012, Jones shot Arjuna Green while he was sitting in his parked gar in the Kum & Go parking lot at National Ave. and Chestnut Expy.

A statement from the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office says Green and Jones did not know each other and surveillance cameras at the gas station captured some of the events in the incident. Jones was also placed at the scene by the driver of the car Green was a passenger in.

Jones was convicted of first-degree assault and armed criminal action during a jury trial on March 6, 2014.

Judge Calvin Holden sentenced Jones to a 25-year prison sentence for the charge of assault and a three-year sentence for the charge of armed criminal action.

First-degree assault is, by Missouri statute, considered a dangerous felony and Jones will serve a minimum of 85 percent of the sentence before being eligible for parole.
