Springfield Blasts Past 'Riders

Springfield's Jacob Wilson belted a grand slam in the Cardinals 8-4 win over Frisco.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Springfield Cardinals welcomed a new opponent to Hammons Field Friday night.

The Frisco RoughRiders rode into town.

And Springfield was trying to snap a two game losing streak.

Frisco has won 32 games and leads the south by three and a half games going into the action.

But the Cards sure didn't back down.

Kyle Hald gets Odubel Herrara to strike out on the dropped third strike in the top of the second.

We move to the top of the second, two outs and David Popkins grounds this to deep short, nice play, but Popkins hustles down the line and is safe on the infield hit.

So now there are two on two out for Matt Williams, he singles up the middle,  Curt Smith comes into score and it's 1-0.

Inning not over yet.

Greg Miclat follows with a single up the middle, Popkins scores it's 2-nothing.

Springfield loads the bases and then Jacob Wilson unloads them, this shot to left center, way over the boards and gone, a grand slam, it's 6-nothing.

All six runs with two outs.

Springfield goes onto win 8-4.
