Snow Taking A Toll On Local Schools

Many schools were back in session today after a snow day yesterday. All the recent days off are taking a toll on students and schools!

Many local school districts -- like Nixa, Branson, and Bolivar -- are now in session on President's Day thanks to this snowy, cold winter.

Branson schools are up to 13 snow days, Springfield and Nixa up to 9, Bolivar up to 8, and some schools south of Springfield up to 18!

This throws several curve-snow-balls at staff, students, and teachers. For one, schools need to find days to make up.  Plus, there is interference in the learning process. "Any time you have a big gap in the educational process there's catch up.  You know, you have to re-teach something if you haven't seen a student for 3 or 4 days.  It definitely is not good for academic performance," says Dr. Jason Dial, Bolivar School District Superintendent.

Bolivar schools are now adding two days to the end of the school year. Many districts -- like Branson and Springfield -- are still trying to decide if they will take away holidays or tack on days at the end of the school year.
