Search On For Escaped Inmate

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- Springfield police are searching for an escaped inmate. The search is taking place near Division and Sherman.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- Springfield police are searching for an escaped inmate.

The search is taking place near Division and Sherman, not far from Ozarks Technical Community College and Drury University.

The inmate's name is Nick Gamblin.  Springfield police said Strafford police were taking Gamblin to Springfield.  Around 7:15 p.m., Gamblin got out of the Strafford police car and ran away.

He was handcuffed, and wearing a black and white jail jumpsuit.  He was not wearing shoes.

Gamblin is white, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 135 pounds.

He has four active warrants, including first-degree tampering, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and resisting arrest. 

Police have a perimeter set and are actively looking for Gamblin, who police say may be dangerous.

OTC President Hal Higdon tweeted, "The OTC Springfield Campus is locked down and closed effective immediately.  A prisoner escaped police custody in the area tonight."

Drury University tweeted, "Drury Alert: Springfield Police searching for an escaped inmate near Division & Sherman.  White male, 5'9", 140 lbs, black & white uniform."
