Route 76 Project Begins Monday, Some Delays Expected

STONE COUNTY, Mo. -- A project to straighten a curved area of Rt. 76 between Rt. 465 (Ozark Mountain Highroad) and Rt. 265 west of Branson is scheduled to begin Monday.
STONE COUNTY, Mo. -- A project to straighten a curved area of Rt. 76 between Rt. 465 (Ozark Mountain Highroad) and Rt. 265 west of Branson is scheduled to begin Monday.

According to MoDOT, the relocation project will move the short-section of highway south of its current location.

During the project, there may be nighttime lane closings and short-term traffic stops to allow construction equipment to cross the road.

In addition, Rt. 76 traffic will be shifted away from where crews are set up working.

MoDOT says will be necessary to blast rock during the project and, during blasting operations, traffic on Rt. 76 and on Rt. 465 (Ozark Mountain Highroad) near Rt. 76 will be stopped for brief periods before and during the detonation.

Toward the end of the project, drivers can expect lane closings as crews work to connect the new road with the existing highway.

Senior Construction Inspector Brain Todd says, for the most part, the $2.4 million project won't impact the thousands of drivers who use the road every day.

"The main reason we're doing this is to eliminate the sharp curves though here," says Todd. "And to add additional lanes, take four lanes on down to the intersection at 265."
