ROGERS, Ark. -- An investigation is underway after an officer involved shooting in Rogers.

It happened early on Thursday morning when Benton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call around 1 a.m., after a female victim called 911.

When deputies arrived, they said they were met in the front yard of the home by a woman and were told there were two small children in the home with an armed male intruder. Later they discovered the man inside was  the estranged husband of the victim.

"When the female told him that she had contacted the police, he broke the glass door and the last thing we heard was her scream 'Help,'" a dispatcher said in a recorded call between Central Communications and the Rogers Police Department.

During negotiations, deputies said there were shots fired from the home, causing deputies to take cover. A short time later, the front door opened and the two small children emerged safely.  They were taken to a separate location. The woman was later taken by ambulance to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to reports.

When Benton County dispatchers requested an ambulance, they asked paramedics not to use the sirens.

"Right now they need to stage pretty far back," another dispatcher said during a second recorded call. "We have a gun involved and the guy is drunk."

Deputies said the armed suspect was shot and disarmed during a brief stand off. He was treated on-scene by an attending physician and later transported by helicopter to Washington Regional Hospital where his condition is unknown.

This is an ongoing investigation led by the Arkansas State Police along with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Detectives.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office says they will not be making any further comments until the investigation is complete.
