SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Congressman Billy Long is in the middle of a two-day tour of Springfield-area industry that could have local impacts on international business.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --  "I said, 'Have you ever been to Missouri? And he said, 'No.' I said, Well I want you to come to the seventh district," Rep. Billy Long said during a break between meetings with Kazakhstan Ambassador Kairat Umarov on Thursday.

Long, who is in the middle of conducting a two-day tour of Springfield-area industry with Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Umarov, said the visit could have local impacts on international business.

"Kazakhstan is a dynamic economy," Umarov said. "We are emerging country with big and ambitious goals. We would like to develop all the industries which you have here already."

"Kazakhstan is a big country," Long said. "With a big border with Russia so it's a very important ally to our country and something we need to concentrate on."

Long says the ambassador spoke with him in D.C. about an interest in partnerships from manufacturing to agriculture and high-tech facilities .

One of those high-tech. facilities, the Jordan Valley Innovation Center, is where Missouri State students use the latest technology to help pioneer even newer technology.

"You could see ideas clicking in his mind how they could do partnerships with the seventh District of Missouri," Long said.

"I would like our business people to come over here and for themselves see the opportunities," Umarov said.
