SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- Springfield police are continuing to search Friday for a man who escaped from custody Thursday evening.

Springfield Police Maj. Kurt Manlove says a search perimeter around Division St. and Sherman Ave. has been dropped Friday and officers are confident the man is no longer in that area.

The inmate's name is Nick Gamblin. Springfield police say Strafford police were taking Gamblin to Springfield when he got out of the police car and ran away about 7:15 p.m.

He was handcuffed, and wearing a black and white jail jumpsuit. He was not wearing shoes.

Gamblin is described as white, 5-feet 6-inches tall and 135 pounds.

He has four active warrants, including first-degree tampering, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and resisting arrest.

Manlove says the department is investigating several reports of sightings from citizens.

If you have any information on Gamblin's whereabouts, you are asked to call 911.
